Description

Cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) and subtomogram averaging (STA) have become the go-to methods for examining cellular structures in their near-native states.

However, cryo-ET, adaptable to various biological questions, often requires specific data processing adjustments, rendering a one-size-fits-all approach ineffective.

Moreover, cryo-ET is becoming increasingly complex, with more software options available, each with its strengths and challenges, especially regarding integration due to different programming languages and data formats.

TOMOMAN•PY (TOMOgram MANager in Python) is a versatile tool that streamlines the use of diverse software packages, allowing for developing project-specific workflows.

It is an evolution of our previous Matlab-based pipeline (TOMOMAN). However, it maintains a readable metadata format (JSON) and interfaces with external packages for preprocessing tasks. TOMOMAN•PY also facilitates metadata transfer across STA tools such as WARP and Relion.

By documenting essential metadata, TOMOMAN•PY enhances data sharing and reproducibility of projects.

Furthermore, it reduces computational redundancy and encourages collaborative research across disciplines.

Based on Python, TOMOMAN•PY enables users to easily tailor software combos to their research needs and disseminate their findings more easily within the scientific community.
